ABOUT PROJECT

Split-Dalmatian Zagora Islands • Split ECO City

The area included in this study extends from the outer borders of Dalmatian Zagora, through the cities of Trogir, Split and Omiš, to the areas of the islands of Brač, Hvar and Korčula. The study presents in detail how to link Zagora to the islands through the center of Split.
The Split 22 Croatia urban study powerfully underlines the importance and necessity of efficient urban planning linking the city to its hinterland and islands. Architectural and urban planning studies examine the urban planning and transportation potential of the city of Split through the model of a New Diocletian Palace. With the New Diocletian Palace as the new urban planning approach to the city, an integral vision of the development of Split by 2022 is defined. The large scale of the New Palace corresponds to the future European concept of the Adriatic region and the strategic positioning of Split within it. Through urban planning and the developments of economic cohesion using the formula of the city’s historical cultural identity, the project offers a strategic framework for the integral development of Split and the establishment of a development model for cities of the Adriatic region.

The project description depicts solutions to key issues in the city of Split, the region, and the whole Adriatic coast. Furthermore, it presents the city of Split as an entirely green and sustainable unity – a sustainable city – while respecting its cultural, architectural, and natural heritage. Therefore, we are confident that your project will receiving, along with recognitions it already has received, the necessary support for its further development and successful implementation.

We wish you and your associates much success in carrying out this project

– The President of the Republic of Croatia, 2017.

Split as an endless source of inspiration to artists from around the world

Efforts are being invested in the candidacy of the city of Split for the title of European Capital of Culture 2020. The facilities mentioned earlier could be built as part of these efforts. With this in mind there is Prof. Boris Magaš’ conceptual design of the “New Basilica” in the eastern wing of the “embrace” of the city harbor across from the Sustipan Peninsula.
